External Catheters - Wondering about Pros & Cons
Arby replied to Arby's topic in Incontinence Products
Thank you for the info on this. My only hope is maybe they've improved or some brands are better than others. Same to what you get with diapers I suppose. What you've described is something I thought about, but thought it would be fine if sized right. I would probably wear some sort of padding with them to build up trust, I certainly wouldn't try them out the first few times with normal underwear. If they're free, I'll give them a go, maybe. -
It's possible that I may be able to get external catheters through my Doctors'. I don't think they would be suitable to every situation, such as running or long walks (depending on how much the leg bag holds), so I would still need to use Diapers at times. It seems though it could be great to have when I am at home, perhaps more convenient and save me money as well. Does anyone have experience with external Catheters? I've noticed they're generally not a preference, and am wondering if there a particular reason for that which I haven't already noted. Thanks all!

Ah right! None of them quite go up around my waist, but I'm tried a few things and am happy with the fit I have. I know when I need to change them to avoid leaks, so all good. That's a good idea, a Tena Ultima is fine unless it starts to fill up too much. They do a Plus as well though, which might be better, as there's less padding between the legs, and therefore harder to accidentally cause leaks. I was just using Tena Pull-ups for it, but they're more expensive overall. Thanks!

Aye, that's what I figure out too, I'd love to use Megamax and do less changes, but need more funds for that. I have used large capacity ones like them before and find I usually need 3 a day, so would be 7.50 per day. The new ones I got at 15 for £10, so 0.66 each, they say they hold more a bit more than Tena. Just trying them out today, hopefully they do a good job. Othewise Tena have been a solid choice. I'm seeing what I can get on prescription though, and might have an external catheter and leg bag to wear most of the time instead anyway, will see how it all goes. I'll probably use diapers for when I'm more active, but it'll save money overall.

Hi all, I've got some questions about good fit. I've been using Tena Ultima Slips so far. They seem pretty good. Leaks are very rare. The tapes are good enough, though if I use a booster I do also add duct tape due to the swelling. They are also very practical for every day use - walks, runs etc. I do have some questions/concerns though. They don't have the highest rise and usually sit just below my belly, it is generally better for security if they do up around the waist? I've not had an leaks yet, but need to be conscious of if my issue gets worse. I went for a run in a diaper that was a quite full, when I started running it started leaking between the legs, is that something that should be an issue, or something to be expected? The other is when my diaper starts to fill up at the back about 1/3 of the way, it does leak out the sides when I sit down, is that to be expected? Thanks all!

I will when they're back in stock I think. Atm I don't have the funds to use them full time though, even if I wanted to. Boosters are about £3 for 30, so 10p each but does add up. Honestly if I can get the right product and not need boosters that would be great, they make the process of changing more time consuming and I don't find them as comfortable. These are the ones I'm looking to try out (but the highest absorbancy), which will hopefully mean I don't need boosters. https://www.ageukincontinence.co.uk/incontinence-shop/disposable-incontinence-products/adult-nappies/vivactive-slip-ultimate-medium-4450ml-15-pack.html

Thanks, the ones I have atm are 71p each and I use about 4 a day, they are good quality too. Issue is I need a booster usually twice a day as well. I found ones that are cheaper at 66p each and have good reviews, which hold the same amount as the ones I have with a booster roughly. £1 each would save me money if I only need 3, but I haven't been able to find any which match that price point, most which hold more are over twice the price from what I've been able to find so far. Megamax are £2.50 each here, which is too much. Better Dry are about £1.50 each but I might need 4 a day, I might try them. Tbh I might stick to the ones I've got for the most part, but get something high capacity just for the mornings, as I am an active person. I don't really know what works best for me yet.

I have had my eyes on better dry, and it sounds like they're about the right absorbancy for my routine, but hard to get a hold of them atm.

I would love for larger ones to work out cheaper. for me though I use 4/5 Tena Ultima Slips a day, which is £15 for 21. I have found ones I want to try which absorb more but cost less, which is £10 for 15. If I used megamax, I would need 2/3 a day, but they are £25 for 10. So sadly it works out more expensive overall. I also do running, so something less bulky does help for that. When I have the budget, I will get some high capacity ones, as tbh changing less would make things more convenient. Ah thanks, maybe just breathable ones at night is best. Though I find the smell isn't too bad so far. Thanks, I'll consider the other maintenance aspects and get the things I need. I can't really afford to buy more clothes etc atm, but what I have it fine for now, got a few body suits and pairs of plastic pants already for if I feel I need them. Spares is something I've gotten into the habit of, thankfully haven't needed any yet. Thanks!

Thank you, it sounds like I'm doings most things right. I do drink enough, but it has put me off drinking as much as I did, so it's good to hear that advice. I have noticed that no one notices, and don't really care if they do. I had to wear some non-baggy trousers with a tucked in shirt recently, and thought it was looking a bit bulky, but it was fine, even people who knew I started wearing asked me if I needed the toilet. Not sure they understand I need them all the time yet. I'm going to try some cheaper ones and see how they go, reviews look decent and I like the other products from the brand. I've tried some stored brand ones in the past though, was not good!

Ah nice, looks great! It's good to have artwork that reflects you. Even so, I know who I am & what's for me well. I don't mind the idea that my fursona might need diapers as a reflection of myself, but tbh I've got some different ideas based on his lore already, if I did want to incorporate anything into the design.

Hi all, I'm new to wearing diapers all the time. So far I've been changing every 4-6 hours, and have been using high quality diapers with good acquisition, and have just been using Water Wipes between changes. I wear a breathable diaper at least once a day, try and do this overnight. I typically dry everything well after my shower but it isn't long until I put another diaper on. I haven't had any major issues yet, just a small bit of itchiness which comes and goes. I've heard things like barrier cream, anti-fungal cream, making sure to give everything time to dry properly etc. I both have a budget and I'm trying not to get overwhelmed by how complicated things can be, and keep things as simple as I can. Would you say anything I've mentioned, or anything I haven't, is essential? I don't want to end up with an unexpected painful rash. On the other side, if it's fine to wear plastic-backed diapers with a certain routine to better manage smell, I might try that. I'll be trying better wipes which are designed to create a barrier. I just need to be careful due to allergies. Thanks all!

Thanks! Ive been using Tena Ultima Slips, need a booster as well to get me through the mornings. I'm looking at trying some other ones that are both cheaper and hold more from the site I buy from. Those are all breathable and cloth backed, which I've found is more necessary for my skin since I've has to start relying on them/wearing all the time. It would be helpful to have some like Northshore or something similar of high capacity to help manage at times, but they're out of my budget atm. Are there any you'd recommend, for both high capacity and budget?

Ah neat! It's not really for me though, my Fursona is a reflection of me, just a different species and a bit more silly & dumb lol

I've just had to start incorporating them really, still being diagnosed, so no idea what the future looks like with it. Also furries are cool, I should know, I am one! I haven't gotten used to wearing in social spaces yet outside of family gatherings, but my friends I've told have been very supportive. I did see a picture of a fur at a con wearing a diaper over their fursuit in support of those in the community who wear them, which was really cool. I'm not sure how I'd manage a fur meet or con myself yet, but I got plenty of time to get used to things and figure it out. Diaper shaming does exist and it has impacted me in the past, thankfully at this point I've been through enough in life to not really care. If someone has a problem with my medical need, then I don't really want to be friends with someone that immature anyway. We do need to shut it down though, I don't think that medical need is the only reason to wear diapers, there are a lot of reasons, sometimes simply down to just preference. I suppose the best way is to pay attention to what others say/think and correct them. Same way we do when people judge others for being furries, or for a bunch of other reasons, I suppose.

Hi everyone, I've always had issues with needing to urinate more than average. A couple years ago it got more frequent, and I wore diapers for a time until I had to move out of my own place, and I found it awkward when living with others so tried to manage without them. Recently though, it got much worse fast, and found myself going to the toilet 6+ times an hour, so am now wearing diapers and everyone is being very accepting. I do find it difficult that even with diapers I still struggle to urinate unless I'm standing up, means things like car journeys still get really uncomfortable, but still, diapers are helping a lot at most times. It's been difficult for me being reliant on diapers, as I am new to managing when going out in terms of when/where to change & hygiene, learning how many I need, budgeting etc. So, I mostly came here for that type of support, and general emotional support, and to support other where I can. I'm still going through tests to find the medical cause for what is going on. Thanks all, see you around the Forum!
