When Canon released the D60 into the USA I was all over it. I started building my collection of lenses. The D60 was an outstanding camera with a large 6.3MP CMOS sensor. The color depth and sharpness was all but untouchable by anything under $4000. It unfortunately got damaged in a crash. The Canon still worked, but needed some expensive repairs to by fully usable again. Canon builds they're cameras like tanks.
I bought a Samsung 10PM pocket camera that also recorded video. That was a great little camera that I put through hell. I gave than to a friend that never had a descent camera. It was slow on the first picture, but faster once it had the white balance calculated. Although this was a great pocket camera I missed the speed of the DSLRs. I tried a few other compact cameras along the way and decided I was a DSLR person after all.
A little over a year ago I found a Canon 30D demo that was used as a demo, but still in very nice condition, for less than the repair costs of my D60. I snatched that 30D up in the blink of an eye. It was an upgrade to an effective 8.2MP sensor and back to the speed of a DSLR. I sold that camera today.
I now have a 7D, which has replaced my other video cameras and the 30D. I'm in love with photography all over again.
That's my story. What's yours?
