Saw my G.P 2weeks a go she diagnosed my with Overactive Bladder and put me on Oxybutynin to see if that work she was trying to put me on Imipramine but I refused as I knew my psychiatrist wouldn't allow it because Imipramine is an anti depressant and could make my bipolar worse .

My caseworker and psychologist keeps saying its incontinence but G.P says its not I'm confused I tend to think its incontinence as most times I'd "leak" without warning

The "leaking seems to be more frequent I think and the meds aren't working I feel has anyone here had Overactive Bladder if so how long did it last and how did it heal?

My G.P said if the meds don't work she'll send me to an urologist as well as a continence advisor

Check to see if the medication you are now on is causing the problem. I have read that this sometimes can be the case.

I have been put on medication also for my plumbing problem but the only thing I got out of it was a huge spike in blood pressure so I'm now on nothing and I just manage the problem. It's been long enough for me that I really don't give it a whole lot of thought any more. Nobody really likes it but the way I handle it works within my budget. Maybe this is not the answer you want to read but at least for me it works fine. And it keeps the Doctors knife away from me. Good trade off in my opinion. (but that's only my opinion)

You're probably not going to like this but it might not. My doctors say O.A.B. is a form of incontinence. I was also diagnosed with O.A.B. by my urologist 2 and a half years ago and I still deal with incontinence every day. My doctors can't figure out what is wrong with me and just keep giving me meds to take that almost always have serious side effects. Hopefully though your urologist will be able to figure something out.

Your right didn't like that sorry I really hope my Drs can work it out because as it is I have mental issues accepting it and have to start seeing my private psychologist every 2 weeks as she is going to try to help me accept it.

I really hope it doesn't get too the worse scenario that my entire bladder will empty itself as it is the dripping is more frequent especially while anxious (which is hell because I have several Anxiety disorders as it is).

But thanks for the support

Sorry I couldn't give more good news. Hope the doctors can figure something out.

I just don't know what caused it neither does my G.P. My G.p has ruled out medication as I am hardly compliant. Medications are Lithium (bipolar), Naproxen (due to RSI in my hands and a back injury (mild thoracic scoliosis) early last year.)

Used to take Valium (prescribed by G.p)couple times a week due to anxiety disorders (I no longer take due to a whinging psychiatrist)

Used to drink a lot of coca cola (a couple 2lt bottles per week) which I haven't drink any since January or anything with Caffeine and stopped drinking soft drinks.

I am so confused what is causing it and so is my G.P and Psychiatrist which makes my worried my psychologist whom works with my psychiatrist says I should accept it as I can't do anything about it which I just can't accept and scared I'll be like this for a while. God help me if my family found out if they did they'll just use it as ammo against me.

Any time a person leaks urine, it is referred to as incontinence. Not sure why your primary doctor is saying it's not. You really should see a urologist. A lot of times, urology practices will have "continence nurses" as part of the practice. They are trained to help you select the right type and level of protection for your specific needs. Also can teach self-cathing if that ever becomes a concern.

My G.P. also recently diagnosed me with OAB. Not that big a deal for me personally since the human body is not perfect so these things happen the down side is that I am young, under thirty. My gp was unable to give a clear answer but I was wondering if anyone has had a similair problem. To make a long story short at around six months of age it was discovered that one ureter was a lot longer than it should have been and the other had a much larger diameter than normal. The doctors had to do corrective surgery. If anyone has had a similar experiance any comments or things to expect are more than welcome.

I have had o.a.b. now for over three years. At first I was on medication to help decrease the need to go so often because I thought it was embarrassing for a young man to need to go so often. After being on them for nearly six months I told my urologist that I had enough of the drugs and stop taking them. I decided I was going to manage them by going to the bathroom more often and wearing some form of protection if there was a bathroom not readily available. So far it has been working alright for me. I hope this helps a little. If you would like to talk more I am always available.

For the last week and a half I have been on an OAB treatment that has caused an emotional roller coaster for me that has not been fun for me or my family. At this point I am at the point of just wearing protection for the rest of my life if need be.

Have you tried any medication? Its not an overnight fix and generally it takes 2-4 weeks before you see an improvement. I have been on meds for seven months and they were a life changer. I am out of a diaper/brief now and just need underwear style protection(I still have episodes..though a lot less frequent and I dont leak as much when it happens). A week an a half is not nearly enough time to have any medication even begin to work...rarely do people ever get relief that fast. There are no quick fix drugs out there. By the way, i am on Vesicare 10mg daily....the relief I have gotten way outweighs the minor side effects.

I am sorry to hear it put you in distress for the last week and half. We all have gone through it at some point. I playfully call it the diaper stigma...you will be fine wearing if you choose to..we all have gained our confidence back. If you choose to not use medication...its not for everyone...there are plenty of people here that understand your distress...we are here to support each other.

I was on a medication, Oxybutnin, which is what caused an unstable mood as well as depression and sleeplessness.

You should ask about the other meds for OAB. The med I am on doesnt cause any of that. Dry mouth at best.

Please keep in mind that not all incontinence can be cured with meds or surgeries, I am proof.

I have been on all kinds of meds and had several surgeries and some will help, and some wont seem to do anything, but if you are still having leakage then you might as well stop taking the meds, that is what I did.

I mean if I am still having to wear protection why put up with the side affects of the meds....

Just my 2 cents..

Mike, I was just offering some hope is all. Some people dont even get any relief. I guess I am one of the lucky ones. I count my blessings. I can say its not 100% effective either. I still require protective underwear as it does rear its ugly head but I can feel it building/coming now. For me, its stopped the uncontrollable urge to void all the time. Now I can make it to the bathroom 80-90% of the time, granted if there is one to get to. I am also out of a brief which is also a plus for me. Nightime is another issue that I still deal with, but the underwear is sufficient for me since I sleep on my stomach all the time. I just deal with my friend when he decides to come and visit
